Spanish banking group BBVA has selected Samsung’s biometric authentication technology Samsung Pass, enabling customers to log in to its mobile banking app through iris scan.

Samsung Pass is powered by FIDO (Fast Identity Online) technology, and eliminates the need of entering login credentials to start each session.

“Iris scanning technology, integrated into the Samsung Pass identity authentication solution, is one of the most secure methods of biometric identification, because the patterns of each iris are the most unequivocal password,” the Spanish lender said in a statement.

The latest feature will be available to BBVA customers with Samsung-compatible smartphones.

BBVA Spain head of mobile channels Raul Navarrete said: “BBVA’s goal is to deliver a fast and user-friendly browsing experience. Iris recognition not only provides agile and seamless access to the platform, but also offers an unparalleled level of cybersecurity.”
