IDEMIA’s card manufacturing expertise has created a card that promotes responsible use of natural resources without compromising on quality and security.

The new card is made out of recycled PVC materials coming from industrial waste.

IDEMIA financial institutions business EVP Amanda Gourbault said: “This first card made of recycled plastic in Spain is a big leap forward for the adoption of cards made from recycled plastics.”

The bank will first distribute the cards to its Spanish customers along with a BBVA Youth Account, beginning this month.

By the end of 2020, BBVA is expected to equip over 500,000 young Spanish customers with the new card.

By the end of 2021, BBVA and IDEMIA intend to deliver the “eco-friendly” cards to customers in all countries where the bank has a presence.

BBVA Spain individual customers head Ana Pitarch said: “Young people, in particular, are aware of the importance of protecting the environment and their demand for sustainable solutions is growing.

“We have chosen IDEMIA’s trusted solutions in order to accompany our customers in the environmental transition journey.”
