Telecom company Bharti Airtel has introduced a cross-border money transfer service for its mobile wallet customers in Niger.
The company already offers this service through Airtel Money in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Zambia and Rwanda.
The service will allow customers to transfer money, facilitate remittances and affordably carry out regional trade through a distribution network, the company said.
Also, Airtel has signed a partnership with MTN under which mobile money customers in Ivory Coast and Benin will be able to send money to and from Niger.
The deal will see all of Airtel’s operations in Niger connected to the MFS Africa Hub.
Airtel Africa CEO Christian de Faria said: "This offering will raise the level of convenience in cross-border payments across the four countries with a wide Airtel Money agency network and a highly competitive fee structure. This will facilitate remittances and trade across the region."
