UnionPay International has further expanded its global acceptance network to include car rental firm Hertz’s direct-sale stores in Australia.

In addition to the US and Thailand, UnionPay credit cards will now also be accepted at all of the Hertz’s 62 Australian stores.

Furthermore, the firms are considering the expansion of their acceptance and marketing collaboration to Asia, Europe and Oceania regions.

UnionPay said it cardholders will receive four exclusive discounts and privileges at all Hertz locations in the US, Thailand and Australia till the end of this year.

The deal is part of UnionPay’s plans to bolster its alliance with global car rental firms and is in line with a China National Tourism Administration report that indicated 50% Chinese outbound tourists preferred independent travels in 2017.

Currently, UnionPay cards are accepted at four car rental companies in Thailand, select firms in Taiwan, all the stores of NISSAN Rent A Car and ORIX, as well as NIPPON Rent a Car in Kyushu.

UnionPay cards are accepted at more than 22 million merchants outside mainland China as of the end of October 2017.
