Digital commerce and travel payment solutions provider CellPoint Digital has partnered with UATP, a payment solution owned by the world’s airlines, to support Apple Pay acceptance at Southwest Airlines.
The multi-year agreement will allow Southwest passengers to use Apple’s mobile payment platform to buy tickets and ancillary services.
UATP president and CEO Ralph Kaiser said: “Our joint solution is unique, cost- and time-efficient, and allows our UATP airline members to deploy the alternative forms of payment they need in each of their markets.”
The latest agreement follows a tie-up between UATP and CellPoint last June.
The partnership was aimed at offering UATP’s member airlines access to more mobile and card-based payment options. It also offered airlines connecting to UATP’s Ceptor access to CellPoint’s Velocity payment platform and its mobile alternative payment methods.
CellPoint CEO Kristian Gjerding said: “We are delighted to partner with a leader like Southwest Airlines, to help boost their digital payment capability and improve their conversion and payment acceptance rates. This is another key milestone in our international expansion.
“Together with our strategic partner UATP, we are providing a unique solution that enables airlines to fast-track the launch of alternative forms of payment with minimal development on their side.”
