Co-operative Bank of Kenya, a commercial lender, has selected Finland-based Tieto’s payment card platform to expand its business operations in South Sudan.
Called Tieto Card Suite, the platform will allow Co-operative Bank of South Sudan to issue local debit cards and offer cardholders services using their own ATMs. Besides, credit card issuing and Visa processing services are also being planned in the near future.
Tieto provided new Card Suite software modules and conducted pre-study, installations, testing and project management during the technology implementation for the bank.
In addition, Co-operative Bank of South Sudan also gained an in-house dispute management solution and bank accounting interface as part of the delivery. The entire platform is located centrally at the bank’s data centre in Nairobi, Kenya.
Tieto Financial Services cards director Maris Ozolins said that the company has supported the bank’s regional expansion and growth efforts.
"The Tieto Cards Suite opens up new opportunities for the bank as well as for the co-operative societies and people of South Sudan," Ozolins added.
Co-operative Bank of Kenya operations director Zachary Chianda said that the bank has had ties with Tieto in the last seven years since they installed the Card Suite platform in Kenya.
