CPI Card Group has expanded its Second Wave payment cards to new industries, including transit, hospitality and entertainment, among others.
Second Wave cards are made with recovered ocean-bound plastic in an effort to cut down first-use plastic. The offering was introduced this September.
According to the company’s estimation, the manufacture of one million of these cards will divert more than one tonne of plastic from entering the oceans, waterways and shorelines.
The latest expansion is intended to offer an environmental-friendly alternative to companies across several card industry sectors.
The cards are integrated with a chip for radio-frequency identification (RFID) contactless functionality. CPI Card noted that the cards are compatible with most of the existing chip technologies and applications.
CPI Card Group vice-president of Product Management and Innovation Jack Jania said: “Cards are a staple in a multitude of sectors, from transportation and travel to hospitality and entertainment.
