Commuters can now use their smartphones to buy weekly and monthly RMV passes, owing to PayPal’s integration into the RMV app and mobile back office system.

The integration is also said to benefit commuters utilising a different currency because of PayPal’s reach in over 200 markets.

CTS Deutschland general manager Stefan Jacobs said: “It’s great to be able to expand our collaboration with RMV to give travelers more flexibility in how they pay for their journeys.

“We were able to help RMV reach 20 million ticket sales earlier this year and are going one step further in mobile innovation by adding PayPal.

“We’re delighted to continue working with RMV to incorporate new features that will benefit travellers.”

Earlier this year, the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works upgraded its EASY Card transit fare system by using the open payment technology of CTS.

This will enable commuters to make tap-and-go payments with their contactless-enabled Visa, Mastercard, and American Express cards directly at Metrorail faregates in Miami.
