Mobile banking and payments service provider Monitise has teamed up with Desjardins Group, a Canadian cooperative financial group to develop and implement NFC mobile payments for its members and clients.
Through the agreement, Monitise will develop the NFC-enabled mobile payment application for Desjardins in collaboration with their service manager (TSM), EnStream, a joint venture between Canada’s major mobile network operators.
The technology will allow Desjardins members and clients to make purchases at Canadian retailers securely and conveniently using their smartphone.
Patrice Dagenais, vice-president, payment solutions and business partnerships at Desjardins Card Services, said: "We are pleased to soon be able to offer our members and clients a mobile payment solution that is not only reliable and efficient, but also very accessible, because it will be supported by several mobile telephone providers."
Lisa Stanton, president of Americas for Monitise, said: "The delivery of NFC capabilities for Desjardins highlights our continued momentum in expanding our offering in the areas of payments and commerce, cementing the role of the financial institution at the centre of the Mobile Money ecosystem."
The Desjardines Group is Canada’s 6th largest financial institution by assets.
