Australian payments system Eftpos has signed a five year contract with mobile technology company C-SAM to provide an Eftpos mobile wallet and NFC widget.

Eftpos will offer smartphone users a mobile wallet that will allow them to carry out transactions by tapping their mobile against a payment terminal. With this technology Eftpos plans to provide special offers, loyalty programs and transfer of receipts in the future.

Eftpos chief executive Bruce Mansfield said: "This agreement will enable Eftpos to move into proof of concept trials very quickly, to test various solutions for the Australian market."

"In an effort to make Eftpos mobile payments as simple, flexible and accessible as possible, the new Eftpos mobile wallet and NFC widget will be developed as white label products that could potentially be used by a number of Australian retailers or financial institutions."

Mobile payments trials with selected Australian retailers will begin in the next few months.
