Oberthur Technologies (OT), a provider of embedded security software products and services, and Eika Alliance, have released their first dual payment card in Norway.

Certified by the local Norwegian payment scheme BankAxept, the card will be offered to customers of major savings bank coalition Eika Gruppen.

OT’s dual payments card uses INTERAC Flash technology that enables Eika to provide its customers a contactless BankAxept certified payment card.

Based on the Near Field Communication technology (NFC), the OT’s dual payments card facilitates wireless communication between both the card and the payment terminal using radio signals. Users are not required to enter their PIN, and the purchase can be done by just waving the card over the payment terminal.

OT managing director of the financial services institutions activity Eric Duforest said: “As a result of a close and successful collaboration with Eika and BankAxept, OT is proud to deliver a product with INTERAC Flash technology that enables contactless BankAxept payments.

“The first live cards already delivered are the starting point for wider contactless rollout in Norway that will bring convenience to cardholders.”
