Singapore-based card issuer EZ-Link has eliminated the convenience fee on top-ups made through its EZ-Reload service using Mastercard and Visa debit or credit cards.
EZ-Reload is designed for automatic top-up of EZ-Link card in the event of insufficient funds. The service is said to be currently used by around 400,000 people.
The company also moved application for EZ-Reload from web to its mobile app. This enables NFC-enabled Android users to activate the service instantly.
iOS phone users will be able to activate the service at general ticketing machine using an in-app ARN code.
EZ-Link CEO Nicholas Lee said: “EZ-Link is making a concerted effort to contribute to Singapore’s goals to promote e-payment adoption and reduce cash handling.
“We have taken away the convenience fee to encourage more members of the public to use EZ-Reload, in a bid to further discourage Singaporeans from using cash to top up their EZ-Link.”
Launched in 2002, the EZ-link card is a contactless stored value product. It’s meant for public transit payments on the MRT, LRT and buses in Singapore.
The card is said to provide fast, accurate and secure cashless transactions. It can also be used for lifestyle purchases such as retail, dining, government services and ERP charges.
