Social media giant Facebook has launched person-to-person (P2P) payments service through its Messenger app in the UK.
The app allows users to send money to friends and contacts from mobile phones or computers without charging any extra fees.
The users have to add their debit card details on Facebook account and can send money after five days when it appears on their accounts.
The social network’s M virtual assistant will also make payment suggestions when it recognises that users are discussing regarding the money one owes.
Facebook previously launched this feature in 2015 for US users and the UK customers will receive the update in the coming weeks.
Facebook Messenger head David Marcus said: “When it comes to payments, we take extra steps for protection: All debit card credentials are encrypted and protected with bank level security, our world-class anti-fraud specialists monitor payments, and in the rare case that we find unauthorised activity on an account, we’ll work with them to secure the account again.”
