Fidel, a card-linking API provider, has partnered with physical-digital marketing specialist Thyngs to enable faster card-linked donations to charity organisations via smartphones.
The partnership, which aims to maximise donations amid the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, will help charities to earn more from a Gift Aid donation system as a medium.
At present, the Gift Aid donation system needs consumers to fill a form when they donate to charities. Thyngs will use Fidel’s card-linking API to automate this process.
Thyngs can make a physical branded object into a point of sale device using Near Field Communication (NFC) and Apple Pay.
It has partnered with charities like Macmillan to create interactive physical items that act as contactless donation points.
Consumers will use one of Thyngs’ contactless donation points installed at participating merchants in order to donate

By GlobalDataTo do so, they first have to link their cards with Thyngs’ platform.
Thyngs founder and CEO Neil Garner said: “The current pandemic has amplified the urgency to reach out with our immediate and sustainable fundraising solutions.
“Partnering with Fidel to pilot this hands-free solution could ease the burden, and help consumers to continue to support the causes they care about from home.”
Once consumers link their cards, they are prompted to consent whether they wish to add Gift Aid on their card transactions at participating merchants.
Fidel will track when consumers make transactions qualifying for Gift Aid, and automatically notify them. Consumers can then approve the donation.
Fidel founder and CEO Dev Subrata said: “This partnership will provide another tangible solution to charities that will really help to do some good.
“Increasing Gift Aid donations by even a few percentages will result in a huge increase in revenue right when charities are struggling with donations.”
