Fifth Third Bank has joined the war against cancer by launching a credit card with the charity Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C).
Fifth Third, a US bank with over 1,300 in 12 states, is launching the SU2C credit card following the launch of a SU2C debit card in June of this year. Like the debit card, the new card is produced in association with MasterCard and can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted.
Julie Joseforsky, senior vice president and head of Bankcard for Fifth Third Bank, said: "We are proud to help more consumers join in the fight against cancer by taking an everyday behaviour like swiping your MasterCard and turning it into something quite meaningful.
"We are introducing the Stand Up To Cancer Credit Card following our successful Stand Up To Cancer debit card launch earlier this year and continue to look for innovative ways, such as the Take a Swipe at Cancer promotion, to serve this important cause."
The bank will donate $5 a year for every active card. Until 31 December the bank will also donate $0.01 for every transaction made using a SU2C credit or debit card as part of a promotion called Take a Swipe at Cancer.
SU2C co-founder Rusty Robertson, said: "One in two men and one in three women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetimes. With the incredible support of our donors, we hope to change these odds."

By GlobalData"Through this collaboration, all of Fifth Third Bank’s customers have an opportunity to make a difference. We are profoundly grateful to everyone at Fifth Third for the Bank’s continued commitment to Stand Up To Cancer."
All three parties are encouraging customers to participate actively in the scheme by visiting the Fifth Third Facebook page, using the #swipe2fight hashtag on Twitter and redeeming their Real Life Rewards points for cash donations to SU2C.
Craig Vosburg, group executive of US Market Development for MasterCard, said: "Cancer kills one American nearly every minute. Fifth Third Stand Up to Cancer credit and debit cards empower all of us to fight back by swiping our cards in grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants and everywhere else MasterCard is accepted.
"It’s a powerful proposition: help end cancer by using these cards to do the things we do every day."
Customers can apply for the card in-branch or on Fifth Third’s website.
