Financial services technology company FIS has collaborated with loyalty marketing and technology firm Excentus to enable real-time rewards points redemption at participating Shell fuel stations in the US.

The new initiative is part of FIS Loyalty Rewards programme, and involves 13,400 Shell-branded stations across the country.

It is made possible through FIS Premium Payback redemption network that connects numerous retail point-of-sale locations with customer card rewards programmes.

FIS programme is said to complement current retailer rewards programmes. The company added that the new programme will help merchants improve traffic, revenue and customer engagement.

FIS chief operating officer of integrated payment solutions Bruce Lowthers said: “With its real-time redemption capabilities and broad network of participating rewards programmes, FIS Premium Payback helps retailers like Shell differentiate themselves at point-of-sale and drive return business.”

Excentus senior vice-president of business development Brian Jefferson said: “With a single swipe of a payment card, FIS Loyalty programme customers will be able to turn their points into savings on quality Shell fuel, delivering real-time value at the pump, while encouraging future visits.”

In September this year, Shell partnered with Excentus and Citi Retail Services to launch Shell | Fuel Rewards Mastercard and the private label Shell | Fuel Rewards Card.

The cards offer fuel as well as non-fuel savings under Excentus’ Fuel Rewards programme. They also provide rollback on fuel and select rebates on non-fuel transactions at associated Shell retail stations.
