Wearable technology devices manufacturer Fitbit has teamed up with Mastercard, Siam Commercial Bank and Krungthai Card to launch Fitbit Pay in Thailand.
Customers can add their Mastercard cards to two Fitbit smartwatches, the Fitbit Ionic or Fitbit Versa, to carry out contactless payments. Fitbit Pay will also be introduced on the Fitbit Charge 3 from the next month.
The service leverages Mastercard’s Digital Enablement Service (MDES) that digitises the card onto the device to enable contactless transactions. All such contactless payments are secured through its tokenisation technology.
Fitbit regional director for South East Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan Louis Lye said: “Fitbit Pay will provide consumers with the option of hassle-free contactless payments, which is in line with the Thai government’s efforts to establish a digital economy in the country.
“It also offers banks an exciting opportunity to engage with their customers in unique ways while supporting them on their health and fitness journeys.”
Mastercard country manager for Thailand and Myanmar Donald Ong added: “Mastercard is committed to driving the development and wider usage of contactless payments technology in Thailand.
