South African lender First National Bank (FNB) has enabled support for Fitbit Pay and Garmin Pay, enabling its customers to make contactless payments through compatible points-of-sale device.
The initiative will allow FNB customers to pay through their Visa-enabled FNB Banking Cards by using Fitbit or Garmin wearables.
Garmin and Fitbit Pay
FNB digital payments head Jason Viljoen said: “This latest offering complements a number of our digital solutions that enable customers to conveniently make payments without the need for carrying a physical card or cash.”
Users need to download Fitbit or Garmin App in their smartphones. After, they link their FNB card with the app, before starting to use the service. The personal details of customers are secure; this is through encryption and tokenisation.
The wearable device will be active for 24 hours or until it is removed from the wrist. Once placed back, the payment functionality will be activated after entering a passkey.
In some transactions, customers will have to enter their pin for additional safety.
