Payment service provider GHL Systems has partnered with AliPay, a Chinese payments platform operated by Ant Financial Services Group, to offer an alternative payment option to merchants in Malaysia.

GHL said that the service launch will commence with physical merchants before end April 2017 and would eventually be extended to ecommerce merchants.

Malaysia is the second ASEAN country, where GHL has teamed up with AliPay to offer alternative payment option. Earlier in the second quarter of 2016, the firm has partnered with AliPay in Thailand to offer payment services for physical stores. To date, GHL Thailand has enabled over 600 merchant acceptance points.

GHL Thailand has now extended the AliPay payment offering to ecommerce merchants under its online payment gateway, eGHL.

GHL group CEO Danny Leong said: “We started with AliPay in 2016 in Thailand. This has allowed both sides to familiarize operational methodology and ironed out initial teething issues. This will allow our AliPay Malaysian roll out to proceed more smoothly and we look forward to expanding to the region as AliPay’s ASEAN partner.”
