Card-processor Global Payments has announced a partnership with Hong Kong-based operator 1010 to provide a mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) reader.

Capable of turning mobile phones and tablets into card-acceptance devices, the reader is compatible with both iOS and Android devices and is already on sale at selected 1010 stores.

The dongle is EMV-compatible, and primarily aims to attract home delivery services, outdoor sales operations and businesses with mobile sales forces.

Paul Hodges, executive vice president of corporate, wholesale and international, at CSL Limited, 1010’s parent company, commented on the deal: "1010 is proud to be the first mobile operator to partner with Global Payments to introduce this advanced mobile payment service in Hong Kong, increasing value and convenience for our customers."

Hodges further explained that 24/7 customer care and professional consultation will be deployed to supported the payment service.

Speaking on behalf of Global Payments Asia-Pacific, Konrad Chan, president for North Asia, stated that the company was ‘delighted’ with its partnership with 1010.
