Google has updated its mobile payment service application, dubbed Tez, to facilitate utility bill payments in India.

Originally launched in September 2017, Tez was initially designed for direct transactions between bank accounts through the country’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system.

The latest feature supports payment of bills from more than 80 organisations such as Reliance Energy, BSES and DishTV across various services, including electricity, gas, water, DTH and internet.

The app also uses Bharat BillPay system that is devised to fetch the latest bill from providers.

A statement from Google read: “We’ve designed bill payments to be the most convenient way to manage life’s expenses, so you can pay right from your bank account in just a few taps.”
