Vice president of Google Wallet Osama Bedier has left the company after two years of working at Google, following the disappointing performance of the tech giant’s payment solution.

In a statement Google confirmed Bedier’s departure: "We can confirm that Osama Bedier has decided to leave Google this year to pursue other opportunities," said spokesman Nate Tyler.

The Google Wallet is a mobile payment system that allows users to store debit, credit, loyalty and gift cards. Since its launch in March 2011, the product has failed to take off, possibly due to its limited availability.

Bedier was vice president of product development at e-commerce acquirer PayPal for eight years before he came to Google. This move resulted in a lawsuit being filed against him and Google by PayPal.
