IDEX Biometrics has announced that its dual interface technology has been certified as a biometric payment card by a new an additional global payment network.
The payment networks, names of which have not been made public, represent about 70% of the global brand general purpose payment cards, the company claims.
Several weeks ago, the company achieved its first certification from China UnionPay by placing its dual interface solution in a new card from the tier 1 payment card manufacturer FEITIAN.
The company’s complete suite of the biometric solution, including sensor, software and matching algorithm, is now certified for biometric payment cards.
These certifications will allow the company to transition from the pilot phase to full commercialisation and wide market adoption globally.
Currently, the total requirement for biometric payment cards in the market is 8.2 billion units.
IDEX Biometrics CEO Vince Graziani said: “This is another significant achievement for IDEX as it validates that our technology has passed the stringent certification requirements from multiple major global payment schemes.
“Certified payment cards including IDEX’s technology are now available for commercial launches globally.”
