Italian payments firm Nexi has teamed up with ACI Worldwide to enable merchant customers of its partner banks to offer value-added services (VAS) at POS terminals.

Under the collaboration, Nexi will leverage ACI Worldwide’s UP Retail Payments solution to offer a VAS Layer Platform on its devices.

The implementation is said to centralise on-boarding and distribution of all VAS services. Subsequently, merchants can offer new services through the POS including loyalty points and processing of meal vouchers.

Nexi director of BU Merchant Services and Solutions Enrico Trovati said: “We are excited to partner with ACI Worldwide because it allows us to provide merchants of our partner banks with a flexible, fast and scalable solution, which can adapt quickly to changing market conditions.

“Furthermore, ACI provides us with a solid platform on which to build new services.

“This also allows us to implement a long-term strategy on value-added services for different merchant categories.”

ACI Worldwide vice-president Gianfranco Botti said: “To be competitive, merchants in Italy and throughout Europe must offer their customers innovative payment services to generate new business.

“ACI Worldwide has a long and solid track record in the European merchant payments market and we are pleased to collaborate with Nexi as they set the standard for digital payments in Italy.”

Nexi raised $2.3bn in an initial public offering (IPO) earlier this year. The move valued the firm at €7.3bn, including debt.
