Mobile phone operators in New Zealand have
agreed to a payment framework that will allow customers to safely
make low-cost purchases via their mobile phones.

Payforit, allows users to purchase digital
content, such as apps, and have it added to their mobile phone bill
without the need to give their payment details to a third
party.

The initiative has been launched by members of
the Telecommunications Carriers’ Forum (TFC) which consists of
Vodafone, TUANZ, 2degrees and Telecom.

David Stone, CEO of TCF said:

“We anticipate that this will encourage
consumer confidence in paying by mobile for content and services,
and in turn generate repeat business and growth in conversion rates
for content providers,”

The British version of Payforit was launched
in 2006. The payment process is monitored by the Accredited Payment
Intermediaries (APIs).
