areeba, an electronic payment technology company, has inked a network alliance agreement with Discover Financial Services.
The agreement will bolster the international payments acceptance footprint for both the companies.
The alliance will provide Discover Global Network cardholders with additional payment options in Lebanon.
All the Discover, Diners Club International, and Pulse cardholders can now conduct transactions on the areeba network.
Discover Global Network VP of international markets Matt Sloan said: “Discover strives to be a nimble and flexible partner to organizations around the world by providing them with the tools and resources to grow and increase acceptance.
“This agreement with areeba complements Discover’s strategy of creating worldwide alliances that provide consumers with more choices when it comes to how and where they pay.”

By GlobalDataareeba’s network comprises of 15,000 point-of-sale (POS) terminals and 800 e-commerce websites at over 8000 local merchants across Lebanon.
areeba said that the alliance with Discover is in line with its strategy to increase the payment options for consumers across the country.
The alliance will provide customers with access to over 48 million outlets in 200 countries worldwide.
areeba chief commercial officer Ramzi Saboury said: “We believe that this new alliance with the Discover Global Network will grant all cardholders across the Discover Global Network a compelling shopping experience in our country.
“Through this strategic partnership focusing first on acquiring to allow all Discover cards to be accepted at areeba’s POS and payment gateway networks, we will expand in the near future this agreement to cover the issuance of special cards allowing Lebanese banks to introduce cards that will be accepted on the Discover Global Network for international purchases and cash access outside of Lebanon.”
Launched in 2017, areeba is a licensed financial institution and a principal member of the Mastercard and Visa. It also has a partnership with American Express.
Back in July this year, Saudi Payments, a subsidiary of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA), also signed a network alliance agreement with Discover.
