Mastercard has partnered with fintech solutions provider Entersekt to facilitate various scan-to-pay services via Nedbank’s mobile application in South Africa.

The Nedbank Scan-to-Pay feature was originally developed by Entersekt. The feature will now be integrated with Masterpass. This will allow Entersekt’s payments enablement product Connekt to support all scan-to-pay services in Nedbank’s app.

Nedbank cardholders will be able to use the integrated solution to carry out both online and in-store QR payments to Masterpass, Pay@, SnapScan, and Zapper merchants and billers using the bank’s Money app.

This partnership is part of Mastercard’s strategy to build interoperability between its Masterpass platform and other mobile and digital payments services in the country.

Mastercard Southern Africa division president Mark Elliott said: “The enablement of Masterpass scan-to-pay capability within the Nedbank application represents yet another important milestone in the digital payment convergence journey.

“It furthers our goal of driving interoperability across the payments ecosystem, so that consumers can pay securely and conveniently anywhere and with any card from a single app on their smartphones.”

The integrated feature is expected to improve convenience for Nedbank cardholders, and increase transaction volumes for Masterpass-enabled merchants.

To enhance security card details can be stored in a single app and transactions are authenticated through biometrics.
