MasterCard Worldwide and Belarus’ largest payment system BelCard are to issue joint payment cards.

The Bank Processing Center, BelCard’s parent company, signed the agreement with MasterCard to allow any Belarusian bank that uses the two payment systems to issue cards under both brands.

The partnership will also allow banks that use the BelCard system to embrace more modern payment technologies; including screening cardholders during online transactions, contactless payment technology and the money transfer service MasterCard MoneySend.

Ilya Ryaby, head of MasterCard in Russia, Belarus and Armenia, said: "Partnership with the Bank Processing Center opens up new opportunities for banks and MasterCard cardholders."

"This is our first strategic project with a local payment system in Belarus and one more step towards the noncash world," he concluded.

Director of the Bank Processing Center Gennady Zubarev added: "Cooperation with MasterCard Worldwide gives us the access to the international financial market and promises great prospects for the development of innovative payment cards technologies in Belarus."
