Mastercard has partnered with self-service kiosk technology provider Zivelo on a AI-powered voice assistant and personalised dynamic menu to boost drive-in and drive-through ordering experience for quick service restaurants (QSRs).
This solution will be piloted at select Sonic Drive-In locations.
The technology will also be showcased at the National Restaurant Association Show in Chicago from 18-21 May.
The new technology will prompt consumers to order through an AI-powered voice ordering assistant, which will integrate with a menu display of the restaurant.
The menu will be updated automatically using Mastercard’s proprietary AI solution.
This solution will allow the display to be customised for a customer or for external factors such as seasonality, location, weather and time of day.

Mastercard senior vice president for new commerce partnerships Stephane Wyper said: “We are excited to be partnering with ZIVELO to help QSR merchants further enhance their ordering experience to provide even more contextual interactions with their customers and ultimately allow them to get their food faster.
“This builds on Mastercard’s continued focus on leveraging our payment, loyalty and analytics capabilities to innovate within the retail space alongside our merchant and technology partners.”
ZIVELO CEO Healey Cypher said: “Drive-thru accounts for 70% of QSR transactions, yet the experience has remained more or less untouched by innovation.
“As customer expectation continues to move towards faster, personalized, and contextual experiences, we are excited to partner with Mastercard to bring this transformative solution to market and hopefully exceed those expectations.”
