Mauritius Telecom has joined forces with PCCW Global, part of Hong Kong telecom provider HKT, to introduce the island’s first mobile payment solution.
Called my.t money, the new solution is based on Hong Kong’s Tap & Go mobile payment offering.
It supports payment as well as non-payment transactions through a mobile application platform, while supporting modern and older phones.
PCCW CEO Marc Halbfinger said: “When combined with a high-speed, robust and secure global network, our FinTech experience in Hong Kong places us in an ideal position to work with ICT service providers in rolling out cutting-edge mobile payment solutions anywhere in the world.”
A cloud-based solution, my.t money has local hosting for sensitive data.
Mauritius Telecom CEO Sherry Singh said: “In terms of vision and ambition, Mauritius Telecom is not just launching another service. We intend to positively disrupt the payments industry.
“my.t money seeks to make payment fast, simple and fun. 200,000 customers have already signed up and at launch we already have 1,000 merchants and more than 200 loyalty partners.”
The services provided by PCCW to Mauritius Telecom under the partnership also include international network connectivity, system installation and integration, point of sale (POS) equipment, along with the management of native cloud apps.
