MoneyGram has re-opened its remittance
services in  the Ivory Coast, having been closed since 1 March
2011 due to political unrest.

The decision comes in recognition that
political uncertainty in the country could increase local people’s
need for access to reliable remittance services.

“Possibly now more than ever we know
that hundreds of people are relying on our services for
sending and receiving funds and we’ve been diligent in our efforts
to reinstate our services as soon as possible,” said Guillaume
Dewael, vice president France, Benelux and Africa.

The company is lowering its charge to €1
($1.42) for all sends from France to Ivory Coast until 15 June
2011.

With 80,000 immigrants from the Ivory Coast
living in France, the country is one of the top send countries to
the Ivory Coast. According to figures from the World Bank,
approximately $177m was sent to the Ivory Coast from around
the world last year.
