moovel North America, a public transit mobile ticketing provider, has partnered with Google and transit services firm TriMet to create the new virtual transit fare card for Android Pay users.
The firms will update the Hop app that will integrate the mobile devices with TriMet Hop Fastpass account management and contactless payment features for transit riders in the Portland-Vancouver region of the US.
The Hop Fastpass virtual card will enable TriMet and C-TRAN buses, Portland Streetcar, MAX Light Rail, WES Commuter Rail and C-TRAN Vine riders to pay for their trips from mobile devices.
To facilitate the virtual payment, near field communication (NFC) has been enabled on fare validators.
The firms intend to initially carry out a pilot launch of the virtual card over the coming weeks, with plans for a full roll out early next year.
moovel has also collaborated with Innovations in Transportation (INIT) to incorporate mobile payments, account and auto-load management, and loss prevention capabilities into the Hop Fastpass app.
