mPOS company SumUp has launched in Brazil, with a newly opened office in São Paulo.
The company intends to expand its service throughout Latin America, where it says its Chip & Signature card reader will enable SMEs with tablets or smartphones to accept major credit cards, including MasterCard, Visa, American Express and ELO.
Already active in 12 countries across the globe, including Germany and Russia, SumUp follows competitor iZettle in setting up in the South American country.
Commenting on the launch Jan Deepen, co-founder of SumUp, said: "Brazil is home to more than 22m SMEs and micro-businesses and thousands of new ones are started every day.
"Providing them with a simple and affordable way of accepting card payments will dramatically affect how they can grow their business – whether they’re city-based or in a remote rural area."
Fresh from the announcement of a 5m ($6.7m) deal with Santander, aimed at providing its product in Britain, SumUp has said it is preparing to offer the service at what is currently the lowest fee on the Brazilian market.
