National Bank of Canada has launched a new contactless debit card to enable cardholders to pay for goods and services by just tapping their card on a PoS terminal.
Equipped with the Interac Flash feature, the new ‘my debit contactless debit card’ will allow users to make payments up to C$100 ($75.06) without having to feed their personal identification number (PIN).

The bank said that customers will be required to enter PIN during their initial transaction and then randomly after a certain number of contactless transactions.
The card also allows users to decrease their contactless payment limit and even deactivate the card by setting their limit to zero. The feature can also be reactivated upon request.
National Bank of Canada executive vice-president of personal banking and marketing Lucie Blanchet said: “We’re pleased to offer the new my debit card to our clients so that they can pay for their purchases more quickly and simply, and just as securely as ever.
“This is yet another initiative to expand the Bank’s mobile and contactless payment solution offering in order to simplify the client experience.”
The bank said that the existing customers will be provided new contactless debit card over the coming months.
The roll out a new contactless debit card is the latest in a series of new products and services the bank unveiled recently, including new nbc.ca site, Apple Pay and Google Pay for credit cards, new ABMs, and a mobile app for businesses.
