Norway-based fingerprint sensor technology developer NEXT Biometrics has forged an alliance with an undisclosed East-Asian card manufacturer to launch contact-based and dual interface biometric smart cards.
The Asian smart card manufacturer holds certifications by local and international payment brands, NEXT Biometrics said in a statement.
NEXT Biometrics chief sales and marketing officer Alain Faburel said: “The agreement is another important step towards building a strong network with leading players in the smart card ecosystem to commercialise biometric dual interface technology in the banking sector and beyond.”
According to an independent research, cited by the Norwegian firm, shipments of EMV payment card touched almost three billion units at the end of last year, of which Asia Pacific again took the major share.
Over the coming years, Asia Pacific region is expected to continue to hold leading growth position in the adoption of EMV payment card technology, the research reported added.
Last month, Next Biometrics partnered with M-Tech Innovations to develop and deploy biometric smart cards in India. The partnership will leverage on NEXT`s sensor technology and M-Tech smartcard manufacturing capabilities.
