US office supply store OfficeMax has rolled out a series of
contactless checkout terminals enabling mobile payments via Google
Wallet.
The new contactless checkout terminals are powered by MasterCard
PayPass and have been deployed in more than 100 OfficeMax stores
across the US.
The deployment is part of a wider mobile marketing strategy that
includes an SMS loyalty programme and a mobile shopping app.
Osama Bedier, vice president of payments at Google, said:
“OfficeMax has used Google Wallet to make shopping easier by
enabling shoppers to pay, redeem coupons, and earn MaxPerks with
one simple tap of their phone at the register.”
The first version of
Google Wallet went live in September in the US allowing
consumers to tap and pay.
