Civic, a blockchain identity and payment solution firm, has tapped identity verification platform Onfido to power its upcoming wallet.
The new Civic Wallet will enable users to store, send and receive crypto, with private keys stored on the mobile devices of users.
The wallet can be restored in the event of theft of the mobile device.
Onfido will verify the identities of the wallet’s users using AI technology by evaluating the authenticity of their government-issued identity document.
Offering an extra security layer, Onfido will also compare the identity against users’ facial biometrics.
Onfido CEO and co-founder Husayn Kassai said: “We bring trust to digital interactions worldwide, and we’re excited to be partnering with a company that shares our goal of making access to digital services simple and secure.”
Besides, Civic’s blockchain technology will secure the underlying data while enabling various parties to leverage the personally identifiable information.
The aim is to accelerate users’ onboarding process while addressing privacy concerns.
The wallet is currently open for pre-registration and expected to launch at this year-end.
Civic CEO and co-founder Vinny Lingham said: “We chose to partner with Onfido because they share our vision of providing everyone with a digital identity they may own and control.
“As our earliest identity.com validator, we saw firsthand how their AI verification technology delivered higher pass rates without compromising on fraud protection.”
