Oberthur Technologies (OT), a provider of embedded security software products, services and solutions, has embedded the Quick electronic purse with its new debit cards in Austria.

The Quick e-purse service, which allows cashless micro payments at small retailers and vending machines, will be available on latest contact as well as contactless cards of OT.

To make a payment, cardholders need to insert the card into or wave the card in front of a terminal and confirm purchase by pushing a button on the keypad, with no requirement of a PIN code or signature.

In addition to helping cardholders make micro payments, the card also incorporates various other functions including loyalty, transport and access control.

OT managing director of the financial services institutions business Eric Duforest said: "At OT, we are delighted to have been selected by Payment Service Austria to provide our multi-applicative debit card embedding the Quick e-purse application.

"Thanks to OT’s technology, cardholders in Austria will enjoy micro payments in a secure, convenient and quick way."
