Marking its entry into the Italian
market, US payments processor TSYS International has been selected
by Italian financial services outsourcing specialist Cedacri to
provide card and payments services to its clients.

Cedacri will utilise TSYS’ TS Prime, a fully
outsourced processing solution which includes complete, end-to-end
card processing for consumer, commercial and prepaid cards, as well
as 3D secure (Visa and MasterCard) services and TSYS fraud
solutions.

Bob Evans, group executive of TSYS
International, said: “Italy is a key European market and this
partnership with Cedacri provides a great foundation for TSYS to
develop its long-term presence in this region.”

He added that the payments environment in
Italy is changing, with banks looking for alternatives to the
traditional in-country processors.

Cedacri provides application, infrastructure
and process outsourcing services to about 100 clients that include
Italian banks of all types and sizes as well as subsidiaries of
major foreign companies operating in the country.

With more than 31.5 million transactions
handled daily, the company’s computer centre is among the top
providers serving Italian banks.

According to Cedacri, with 70 million cards
(excluding prepaid) in circulation Italy is Europe’s seventh
largest card market. Italy is also the largest market in Europe for
prepaid cards, with the 8.2 million cards in circulation accounting
for 9 percent of the total cards in the country.

Cedacri represents TSYS’ second new client win
in Europe in 2010 and follows the announcement in January that it
has been appointed by German bank Degussa Bank to provide it with
card processing services.

Degussa Bank will convert its card processing
to TSYS’ TS2 commercial card platform during the first half of
2010.

TSYS’ European operations facilities are based
in North Yorkshire in the UK.
