PayPal and the global fast food chain
McDonald’s are testing a contactless mobile payments system in 30
restaurants in France.
Customers can order their food and pay with an
app installed on their smartphones, and then collect their
meal in separated tills.
The success of the trial may determine if
PayPal will further broaden its in-store payments services.
McDonald’s currently has over 1200 restaurants in France and more
than 33,500 outlets worldwide.
The move comes after a similar deal was struck
between Square, another provider of online and mobile payments, and
Starbucks, the world biggest coffee chain. Starbucks customers will
be able to use Square’s app Pay with Square to open up tabs and pay
by saying their names at the till in coffee shops in their local
area.
