Primax, the US credit card services company, has joined Smart Card Alliance, allowing it to use EMV chip card technology.

Membership of the Smart Card Alliance, an organisation dedicated to promoting widespread application EMV technology, allows Primax and its credit union clients to issue credit cards with greater data security and integrity which are more broadly accepted worldwide.

Ted Keith, President and CEO of Primax, said: "As one of the first companies in the US to implement an EMV Chip card program for a US financial institution, Primax is committed to its leading position in US EMV smart card usage and to helping our bank and credit union clients employ this critical technology to stay competitive in the payment cards arena.

"We continue to strongly promote EMV Chip advancements in the US and to utilize our extensive expertise and experience in this area to make this important advancement available to our clients."

Most of the major card companies in the US, including MasterCard, Discover, American Express and Visa, have a deadline of 1 October 2015 for shifting card technology from the magnetic stripe to EMV.
