Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and Free the Children have launched a virtual Visa debit card that allows consumers to support the charity.

The new Free the Children RBC Virtual Visa Debit Card allows consumers of 14 years old or above to make payments online, by telephone or mail order, with payments withdrawn from their RBC deposit bank account. RBC will donate a portion of each purchase to Free the Children.

Doug Collins, vice-president of payments and banking services for RBC, said: "Through all their fundraising efforts for Free The Children, young Canadians continue to demonstrate the difference they want to make in their own communities and around the world.

"This new debit option provides young people and adults with a convenient, safe and secure way to help create positive change by supporting Free The Children with every purchase they make. In addition, because they can set daily spending limits for this debit card, it’s a great tool for smart money management."

The portion of purchases donated by RBC to Free the Children will this year support the charity’s pledge to build 200 new schools across the world.

Marc Kielburger, co-founder of Free the Children, said: "We know the impact small actions can have to bring about big change.
