Santander UK has partnered with wearable fitness device maker Fitbit to enable its customers make contactless payments using the Fitbit Pay on Fitbit Ionic and Versa smartwatches.
The service will be made available to the bank’s personal and business debit and credit card customers, and will exclude ATM only cash cards, Visa top-up debit card and business Visa Electron.
The collaboration with Fitbit follows a research by Santander that found 28% of consumers refraining from carrying cash in the previous year with the increasing accessibility of mobile and contactless payments.
Santander UK director of banking and unsecured credit Matt Hall said: “With more people embracing a healthier lifestyle, Fitbit is the ideal partner to deliver a convenient and simple payment experience. Customers can go straight from the gym to the coffee shop without worrying about carrying cash or cards.
“Fitbit Pay complements our existing mobile payment solutions and shows our commitment to improving the digital options available to our customers.”
