Shell Oman Marketing Company, a fuel oil dealer, has partnered with Bank Muscat to accept contactless card payments.

The oil dealer implemented Bank Muscat’s contactless ‘Just Tap’ point of sale (PoS) systems at its service stations.

The move will enable the customer to make payments at these service stations using contactless cards issued by any bank in Oman.

Bank Muscat AGM for cards & eBanking Amjad Iqbal Al Lawati said: “Bank Muscat has traditionally had a very strong relationship with Shell Oman Marketing Company and their decision to enable contactless card payments at Shell Service Stations using Bank Muscat’s contactless ‘Just Tap’ PoS system builds further on an already strong relationship.

“We look forward to working with them to promote digital payment channels in line with the Government’s vision of facilitating e-payments for greater security, convenience and ease of use.”

Shell Oman Marketing Company retail country manager Khalid Al Awaisi said: “Contactless digital payment is a step to move forward towards cashless transactions; as a way to provide a more secure and convenient payment option for our customers.

“We have started this step with Shell Azaiba Service Station, with plans to enable it across all Shell Service Stations in the Sultanate.”

Bank Muscat is also running a promotional cashback campaign to encourage the usage of card transactions in Oman.

The promotion is aligned with the government’s strategy to facilitate e-payments for greater security and convenience.

Recently, another Middle-Eastern lender Qatar International Islamic Bank (QIIB) launched contactless payment service across its card portfolio.
