Singaporean mPOS solutions provider SmartPesa has launched a new solution, which will accept contactless cards without a physical terminal.
Dubbed softPOS, the new offering has the ability to accept Visa’s payWave and Mastercard’s payPass contactless debit and credit cards.
Additionally, the new offering will also have the capability to accept Android Pay, Samsung Pay and Apple Pay payments.
With softPOS, users can make contactless card payments on NFC phone, tablet as well as hardware running Android.
SmartPesa said that the new proposition will facilitate quick onboarding of new merchants and increase the number of businesses accepting card payments.
SmartPesa co-founder and CEO Barry Levett said: “We believe this is a significant leap forward in terms of providing great convenience to merchants and providing more places for customers to pay with their existing contactless cards.
“The industry has been suffering confusion generated by an influx of new e-wallet startups, which may be counter-productive in terms of addressing ongoing payment fragmentation. SoftPOS takes a very focussed, practical approach to provide efficient card payment by using just a mobile app.”
