SureGifts, a Nigeria-based online gift card company, is planning to expand its operations to Ghana and South Africa by the end of 2015.
Also, the company has launched a new website and additional features on its platform to make the process of sending gift cards more personal.
Set up in January 2014, SureGifts is funded by local and international investors like Venture Garden Group (VGG) and Africa Angels Network (AAN).
"Customers can now choose card designs based on the occasion, attach video messages, and have gift cards delivered to recipients via e-mail or even SMS," the company said.
SureGifts co-founder Adeoye Ojo told Disrupt Africa: "For online platforms we created plugins and extensions, or shared raw APIs for custom platforms. This enabled their systems to verify if a voucher issued by SureGifts is valid or not.
"For offline retail outlets, we deployed custom point of sale (PoS) devices that can verify vouchers and print receipts for customers and merchants similar to ones used for debit card transactions."
