Telecom Italia will deploy a Gemalto software solution for its mobile wallet application roll-out.
The Dutch software provider will use its LinqUs Trusted Services Management (TSM) platform for the secure management of NFC applications and the LinqUs mobile payment platform for transactions.
The mobile wallet will also include Gemalto’s UpTec NFC high-end SIM which combines with the TSM to offer financial services such as retail and transport payments, loyalty programs and P2P money transactions using NFC.
Hewlett-Packard Italy, Gemalto’s system integration partner in the country, will work together to facilitate the connection to service providers such as banks, merchants and transport operators.
Jean-Claude Deturche, senior vice president Mobile Financial Services at Gemalto, said: "Our Mobile Financial Services solution is designed to cover a wide range of use cases, whether on-line or in proximity, and to facilitate the addition of new mobile NFC services as demand grows. With a tried and tested contactless infrastructure already in place, Telecom Italia’s foreseen introduction of the mobile wallet is an exciting step forward for consumers in Italy."
With 30 million subscribers Telecom Italia is the countries largest mobile operator and is aiming to break into previously untapped demographics with this product such as the under-banked and teenage population.
