The United Bank for Africa (UBA), in association with MasterCard, has introduced an instant debit card in Ghana that gives users a secure, easy and convenient means for all transactions.
Dubbed the UBA MasterCard, the new offering is said to be the first of its kind in Ghana. It can be used locally, and is accepted in more than 210 countries across the globe.
Designed as an international card, the new debit card enables cardholders do transactions at more than 1.5 million ATMs, pay for goods and services at POS terminals and carry out secure web transactions. It is directly linked to a current or savings account, which reflects the transactions in the customer’s account in real time.
UBA head of digital banking products and sales Johnson Olakunmi said that UBA’s strategic partnership with MasterCard will focus on increased payment infrastructure across Africa, including the launch of point of sales and mobile point of sales technology. The aim is to ensure that merchants are able to accept cards introduced into the African continent.
