Mobile commerce sales in the UK retail market are expected to reach over £6.61bn this year and increase to £17.24bn in 2017, according to online commerce analyst eMarketer.

The forecast for UK retail sales across all channels found that e-commerce sales will account for 11.5% of the £383.1bn total retail sales in 2013, an increase from 10.2% in 2012.

Tablet commerce is expected to grow by triple digits in 2013 to reach £3.57bn, with eMarketer predicting tablets will be favoured over smartphones by shoppers for buying products online.

Consequently, smartphone m-commerce sales are forecast to fall to 42.6%.

eMarketer estimates that 23.4m people in the UK will browse products on smartphones in 2013, and nearly 15m will do the same on tablets.
