Tanzania’s bankcard switch organization Umoja has signed an agreement with UnionPay International to accept UnionPay cards at all its ATMs.

With the agreement, UnionPay cards acceptance coverage at the local ATMs has been increased from 30% to 50%, thus expanding the card-using scope for UnionPay cardholders visiting Tanzania.
The partnership will enable all the ATMs of Umoja’s member banks to accept UnionPay cards, and promote all the POS terminals of these banks to accept UnionPay cards as early as possible.
It will also help UnionPay International to speed up the issuance of UnionPay cards by these member banks, so as to provide local residents with new payment options.
UnionPay International is also in discussions with Umoja to launch of contactless payment, mobile payment and other payment products in Tanzania.
